Backcountry Travel Adventures for Bike Geeks and Other Cycling Stuff

ABOUT ME

I am a lifelong cyclist and have been bike geek since early childhood. Like some riders my age, I rode BMX somewhat seriously in my teens before adopting and making the transition to mountain bikes in my early 20’s. Fast forward to the present day 25 years later and I am still riding mountain bikes primarily but during that time have dabbled in trials, road bikes, and more recently, tandems with my wife. Early on during that period I also held employment in several local area bike shops as a mechanic, salesperson, and shop manager over a span of nearly 8 years. Also during that period I competed as a cross country racer (participated in a few downhill events as well) on a local & regional level for 5 years before leaving the bike shop environment and local cross country racing format & circuit to step up to the national and eventually international level of 12 and 24 hour ultra endurance mountain bike racing, which became my focus for the following 5 years. During this time as an ultra endurance racer I assembled and managed a mountain bike racing team comprised of 5 national level riders (including myself) whose focus was also on 24 hour off road events. In addition, I was able to obtain support and build relationships with several great companies in the bike industry such as Ellsworth Bicycles, Maxxis Tires, and Rudy Project, just to name a few.

In 2003 I was selected by Florida Sports Magazine and Ford Motor Company as the recipient of the Ford No Boundaries Athlete of the Year award, for which I was presented with a new Ford vehicle, which I still own. Around that same time I had one of my retired race bikes placed on semi-permanent display inside Race Rock Cafe (now defunct), a motorsports themed restaurant located in the heart of Orlando’s tourist district. It was the only bicycle exhibit to be showcased at the establishment.

In the years that followed I began turning my attention toward bicycle travel and adventure. In 2006 I organized and led an islandwide adventure tour with 2 journalists commissioned by the Washington Post to compose a feature travel article about bicycling around the Caribban island of Dominica. The article was published in a special Fall Travel Edition of the Washington Post that same year. Sometime around 2012 I began doing bikepacking trips & events (mountain biking combined with camping & outdoor, off-the-grid wilderness survival). At the same time I also started to capture and record the experience of each of these adventures on video, which I published on the internet. In the recent past few years I have directed more and more of my attention toward the creation of mountain bike adventure and other bicycle related video content and using that content as a marketing and promotional vehicle.

And that is what lead me to where I am today.
